Ayurveda meets Feng Shui |
On a trip to Kerala, India where the practice of Ayurveda is prolific I was offered to Feng Shui a couple of buildings to be used for the delivery of Ayurveda.
Many of these places offering such packages of treatments re very basic and whilst the treatments themselves are amazing I found the surroundings did not complement the experience too well.
That’s when I started looking into the two philosophies only to find a great deal of similarities in relation to the fundamental tenents of the 5 elements; whilst in Ayurveda they use Ether and Feng Shui they use Metal the two are interchangeable as they are both about the Air-the invisible stuff that we know we need but cant see.
Receiving the treatments is experienced on a large wooden massage bed and it is the wood itself that is supposed to be part of the treatment because it exudes all kinds of qualities to be absorbed by the skin.
Overall the commonality is about balance; and this is what we are doing in Feng Shui but in the surroundings in which we live. That is not to say Feng Shui also looks at the nutrition of the house aswell as the person with its distinct flavours, organs, emotions related to each of the five elements; earth, water, fire, wood and metal.
Ayurveda also heralds from the Vedas; an ancient Sanskrit text going back thousands of year similarly to the historical book The I Ching with its foundations for Feng Shui well embedded in its philosophy.
My journey is now taking me to places in the Ayurveda wilderness where I will see where and how Ayurveda and Feng Shui join hands and go forward. Join me on this journey and I will take you into a world that very few have been.
